Fear

Today charlie's friend Evan and his family came over for brunch, because we're fabulous. Everyone was having a great time, and even Elliot was pretty chilled out—even though he's the most chilled out baby ever he gets a little wigged when there's a bunch of people around.

Towards the end of the experience Evan was out on the Wurly-Bird, Cleo was in Charlie's room, I was in the family room, Anne and Jeff were here and there with the kids, and Julia was changing Elliot's diaper. Julia kept yelling, "Charlie? Is that you?" because she thought she heard him in his bathroom (the jack and jill bathroom between the kids' rooms). I thought he was outside with evan but then I heard Evan ask Jeff, "Is Charlie coming out?" So I went looking for him.

We keep charlie's door to the bathroom locked because we're concerned he might walk straight into Elliot's room when Elliot's asleep, so I knew Chas. was in the bathroom when I noticed that the same bathroom door was locked from inside elliot's room.

Kind of freakily, charlie wouldn't respond when I knocked and told him that he needed to come out because Evan was leaving. I knocked and knocked and there was no response. Now, he's gone into that bathroom before and made a big mess with his bath toys and water and such, so I figured he was doing something he knew he wasn't supposed to and that's why he wasn't answering; but at worst I figured he was unrolling the toilet paper.

When he finally opened the door I noticed that all the kids' medicines were spread across the sink and, worse, the bottle of benadryl was open and the dosage syringe was in it. Thank god he couldn't get the Tylenol open, but I still don't know how he got the child safety cap off the benadryl.

He was fine, in the end, though Julia and I FREAKED out on his ass after everyone left. He told us he only had "two scoops" of the medicine, which would have been just over one dose for his age/weight. Still, christ almighty.
